Toná’s Moon

A cocktail inspired by the guardian spirit of the fox, Toná, who under the moon accompanies and guides. This creation seeks to convey balance between herbal freshness, floral sweetness, and the smoky character of Espadín.

Narrative

In Mesoamerican cosmology, the moon symbolizes cycles, the hidden, and guidance in the darkness. Toná’s Moon represents that moment when the guardian fox appears, reminding us that every sip is also memory and spiritual connection.

Technical Recipe

Ingredients (for 1 cocktail):

  • 2 oz Cachito Mío Espadín Mezcal (spiritual base, smooth and smoky).

  • 1 oz elderflower liqueur (floral, sweet, and perfumed notes).

  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice (bright acidity, instant freshness).

  • ½ oz agave honey syrup (natural sweetness, connecting back to mezcal’s origin).

  • 3 leaves of purple basil (spiced herbal aroma, mystical color).

Preparation

  1. Gently muddle the purple basil leaves in the shaker, releasing aroma without breaking them too much.

  2. Add mezcal, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, and agave syrup.

  3. Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds.

  4. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass.

  5. Garnish with a floating purple basil leaf in the center.

Sensory Profile

  • Sight: Crystalline color with greenish reflections and purplish touches from the basil.

  • Nose: Fresh herbal notes with delicate floral tones and a citrus background.

  • Palate: Sweet and floral entry (elderflower and agave), herbal and spiced mid-palate (basil), with a dry, smoky Espadín finish.

  • Sensation: Light, refreshing, and sophisticated.

Suggested Pairing

  • Fresh Oaxacan cheese (quesillo) with herbs.

  • Tostadas with avocado and squash blossom.

  • Light dessert: lime mousse or red fruit tart.

“Toná’s Moon” is not just a cocktail: it is a liquid ritual, where each ingredient symbolizes an element of the guiding fox.
